Diabetes Health Risk Reduction

There’s good news in healthcare! A recent report published in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed a substantial decrease in health risks amongst diabetics. The report shows that adopting a healthy lifestyle can prevent or dramatically reduce type 2 diabetes along with other health related issues. It’s the first credible report that has shown us that all the work on reducing the risks of these preventable diseases are paying off.

Heart attacks and death from high blood sugar dropped by more than 60 percent the largest decrease based on the study results. The reduction can be attributed to many factors including doctors and patients paying closer attention to preventing and treating the diabetes by administering and receiving regular preventive screenings while also adopting and managing a healthier lifestyle.

Remember, nearly 26 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes, so we still have a long ways to go before this disease is behind us and it may never be, but the report is very encouraging.
