What is Glaucoma?

  • Glaucoma is a cluster of diseases that can harm the optic nerve.
  • Symptoms in the early stages are rare.
  • If untreated it can cause vision loss including blindness
  • The most common form of Glaucoma is primary open-angle

  • In the Untied States alone 2.7 million people are afflicted with Glaucoma

  • It is estimated that by the year 2030, 4.2 million people in the United States will have glaucoma.
Who's at risk?

  • Everyone over the age of 60 is six times more likely to get glaucoma. (Hispanics are at the highest risk)
  • Individuals with a family history of glaucoma are four to nine times more likely to get it.
  • African American ages 40 and older are six to eight times more likely to get glaucoma than Caucasians.
What does Medicare Cover?

  • Medicare Part B covers glaucoma tests once every 12 months for individuals who are high risk.
